LAHORE: Pakistan’s domestic cricket circuit may have found its next Test spinner. Slow left-arm spinner Ali Usman is making a strong case for national selection, with selectors eyeing him as a potential replacement for experienced Test spinner Noman Ali.

The 33-year-old from Gaggoo Mandi, Burewala — the same town that produced fast bowling stars Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Zahid — was earlier named PCB’s Best Bowler after topping the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy wicket charts with 48 dismissals.
Ali Usman holds a rare record in Pakistan domestic cricket: 10 wickets in four consecutive matches. His consistency has earned him a spot in the PCB’s red-ball cricket camp, where he is currently refining his skills under NCA and PCB coaches.
His career-best spell remains unforgettable. Playing for PTV against Sui Gas, Ali Usman produced a match-winning 6 for 9, helping PTV defend a tiny total of just 40 runs.
With 192 wickets in 53 first-class matches, the slender spinner brings both experience and control. Analysts believe that with Noman Ali currently out of PCB’s future plans, Ali Usman could be an excellent addition to the Test squad.
Beyond spin, his handy batting and sharp fielding make him a complete package. The PCB selection committee now faces a call: back this domestic wicket-machine before he becomes another hidden gem missed by Pakistan cricket.
