The Architect of Global Hockey Growth”:FIH President Tayyab Ikram Leads Hockey Into Historic New Era with 100 Days to World Cup 2026.

With exactly 100 days remaining until the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium & Netherlands 2026, International Hockey Federation President Tayyab Ikram has emerged as what many are calling “The Architect of Global Hockey Growth” – عالمی ہاکی کی ترقی کا معمار – steering the sport through its most inclusive and socially conscious period in history.

A World Cup Beyond Sporting Excellence
The countdown milestone on Wednesday marked more than just a tournament launch. As President Ikram stated on World Hockey Day: “The World Cup is more than sporting excellence. It encompasses a strong social dimension. Athletes’ development and growth of the game shall always be at the centre.”

The 2026 World Cup, running August 15-30, embodies that philosophy. For the first time, 32 teams – 16 women’s and 16 men’s – will compete simultaneously at the same venues in Belgium and the Netherlands. The tournament opens with Australia vs Japan in the women’s competition.

But the real headline is inclusion. The event will launch the inaugural FIH Para Hockey World Cup, bringing athletes with disabilities onto hockey’s biggest stage. President Ikram has made inclusivity a cornerstone of his leadership since taking office.
Development as Doctrine
Since his election as FIH President, Tayyab Ikram has redefined the federation’s priorities around what he calls the “social dimension” of sport. Under his impulse, FIH launched the “Give Back To Forest” initiative, urging all Continental Federations and National Associations to plant 100 trees by year-end to mark the 100-day countdown.

“Linking World Hockey Day to the symbolic mark of ‘100 days to go’ is very fitting,” Ikram said. “It reminds us how much our most prestigious event is more than a display of sporting excellence.”
The third edition of World Hockey Day, launched during FIH’s Centenary in 2024, now serves as an annual global call to action. This year, FIH urged the hockey community to “launch new projects to expand hockey into new communities” – a direct reflection of Ikram’s grassroots development agenda.
Global Service
Tayyab Ikram brings a development-first mindset to the role. His leadership has focused on athlete pathways, governance reform, and expanding hockey’s footprint beyond traditional strongholds.
“The World Cup presents a unique opportunity to magnify our great athletes,” Ikram noted. “But this prominent milestone also reminds us that athletes’ development and the growth of the game shall always be at the centre of everything we do.”

The Road to August 15
With 100 days left, preparations intensify across Belgium and the Netherlands. The simultaneous men’s, women’s, and para hockey format represents a logistical and symbolic breakthrough for world sport.
As hockey’s global governing body under President Ikram’s leadership, FIH is positioning the 2026 World Cup not just as a championship, but as a blueprint: development first, inclusivity always, social impact as standard.
