Arshad Nadeem again Gold medal hope for Pakistan at Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.

LAHORE, April 23 — Pakistan is set to field a sizable contingent at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scheduled from July 23 to August 2, 2026, as the nation looks to build on its historic performances from Birmingham 2022.
Star Power Returns
The spotlight will once again be on Pakistan’s record-breaking gold medalists. Javelin star Arshad Nadeem and weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt, who both set Commonwealth Games records en route to gold in 2022, are expected to lead Pakistan’s campaign.
Major Sports Axed for Glasgow 2026
However, Pakistan’s medal hopes face a setback. Glasgow 2026 has been scaled down to just 10 sports, with several of Pakistan’s strongholds removed from the program:
- Hockey — eliminated
- Cricket — not included
- Shooting — removed from schedule
The absence of hockey and cricket in particular dents Pakistan’s prospects, as both have delivered medals in previous editions.
Tough Athletics Standards
Athletics remains a key focus. For Glasgow 2026, each nation is capped at 32 athletes in athletics, with no more than 16 women. Qualifying marks are stringent — the men’s javelin standard is 82.61m, a mark Arshad Nadeem has surpassed consistently.
Pakistan’s CWG Legacy
Pakistan has won 82 Commonwealth Games medals overall: 27 gold, 27 silver, 28 bronze. The 2022 edition in Birmingham saw Pakistan claim two golds, both with games records.
Road to Glasgow
The Pakistan Olympic Association has not yet released the final squad. National trials are expected in the coming months. Media accreditation for the Games is open until April 24, 2026.
With a leaner program, Pakistan’s contingent will rely heavily on athletics, weightlifting, wrestling, and boxing to keep the flag flying high in Scotland.
