Burewala Heroes Honored with Gold Medals at Ceremony by The Burewalaans in Lahore

In a reception ceremony organized by the prominent regional and social organization, The Burewalaans, in Lahore, heroes from various fields—including politics and sports—who have brought recognition to Pakistan and the city of Burewala were awarded gold medals.

The special guest of the event was Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s former Housing Minister and former MNA, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed. Renowned poet and author of several books, Afzal Paras, hosted the event.

The founder of The Burewalaans, noted bureaucrat and actor Abdul Basit Khan, explained the objectives and aims of the organization, which was established thirty-three years ago.

On this occasion, Abdul Basit Khan presented a gold medal to Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed in recognition of his political and social services, praising his development work in Burewala—particularly in education, health, and infrastructure—as exemplary for the city. Later, the special guest, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed, awarded a gold medal to hockey hero Rana Ihsanullah, who scored the decisive goal in the final of the 1978 Hockey World Cup, leading Pakistan to become world champions, in acknowledgment of his services to the national sport of hockey.

Abdul Basit Khan was also presented with a gold medal for his invaluable contributions to civil services, social work, and the art of acting. In the health sector, child specialist Dr. Muhammad Asif Chaudhry received a gold medal. In the fields of management, civil works, and accounts, Muhammad Shahbaz was honored with a gold medal. The gold medal for services to cricket was awarded to Rana Ayub—a senior player of Burewala Cricket Club, former captain, founder of Aamer Islam Cricket Club, and Vice President of Dharmpura Cricket Club, Lahore.

In his address, special guest Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed praised the role of The Burewalaans and emphasized the need to further activate the organization. He stated that he had always prioritized the development of Burewala city by upholding principles of justice and equality in politics. He took pride in ensuring various projects in educational institutions, along with health and development work in Burewala during his tenure, and noted that multiple projects for economic development were completed under his leadership. This is why Burewala has built a distinct identity as the “City of Education” and the “City of Sports.” He affirmed that his service to the city and its people would continue selflessly and without any ulterior motives.

At the end of the ceremony, gift hampers were distributed through a lucky draw to six fortunate winners.
